Milwaukee County Executive speaks at College Republican meeting

MILWAUKEE, WI – Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker made his second appearance this year on Marquette’s campus this past Wednesday night. Walker spoke at the Marquette College Republican meeting about—among other things—his duties as Milwaukee County Executive and what it was like as a student on Marquette’s campus 20 years ago. He also touched on how he became involved in politics and how his career path has led him to where he is now.

Walker also talked about his main objectives as the County Executive: not creating any new taxes and putting government money to efficient use in Milwaukee County. He highlighted that this is the 6th year in a row that the budget does not include any new property taxes. In addition Walker told the group that he thinks it is important to keep taxes low in Milwaukee County in order to spark economic growth and help create desirable jobs for new graduates.

Walker’s visit shows his continued commitment to the Marquette community and to students who have given him strong support throughout his time in office. In addition to inviting Walker to the meeting, Marquette College Republicans have sponsored Walker-oriented activities for the last two weeks. These events, aptly called “Walker Weekends”, include group mailings and other forms of campaign support.

College Republican Chairman John Connors said, “These activities take place close to campus, so that is a benefit to students who are involved.” Walker and his staff also reach out to students through their valuable internship opportunities. “Engaging in these activities and opportunities gives students a chance to learn the fundamental conservative values that Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker stands for,” said Mr. Connors.

The Marquette College Republicans plant to host another “Walker Weekend” this weekend. Walker’s appearance marks the beginning of a busy year filled with College Republican sponsored events, and speakers.
