College Republicans Brave Weather to Volunteer
MILWAUKEE, WI – Saturday morning around 9:00am a group of Marquette College Republicans traveled to West Allis for the annual Christmas Parade in an effort to help collect signatures for Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker. The snow and the cold did not deter the CR’s from volunteering this weekend because it was the first weekend that candidates for the spring election for County Executive could gather signatures to guarantee a spot on the ballot. County Executive Walker needs to collect 4,000 signatures in order to be on the ballot in April.
The position of County Executive is a non-partisan seat and Mr. Walker has held that seat since 2002. He has succeeded in keeping property taxes down and the budget in check. In addition to being County Executive, Mr. Walker attended Marquette University in the 1980’s and has received enormous support from the Marquette University College Republicans throughout his time in office.
On Saturday the group effort continued throughout the day and into the night as teams of CR’s went around to dorms and apartment complexes to ask students for their help. This type of support is not foreign to the Walker Campaign, as students have participated in group mailings and phone banking activities since the start of the semester. While the weather was not conducive to going outside, the group was prepared with a plan B in case of bad conditions.
The Marquette University College Republicans and the Walker Campaign will continue to work together throughout the winter and into the spring. There is excitement among members of the group for the upcoming spring election and for more volunteer opportunities to help Walker.
